DIY: Moss Baguette Bowl

I’m all about a good DIY, but I’m even moreso about DIYs that create little luxuries for your home. Ever since I can remember, I have dreamed about a giant moss centerpiece in a natural bowl. This DIY would be perfect as an outdoor centerpiece in a giant stone bowl, but for this DIY, I chose a wood bowl for a homey-farmhouse feel.

You’ll Need:

  • a giant bowl of sorts. I used a Crate & Barrel baguette bowl and would suggest looking at HomeGoods and TJ Maxx for other great finds

  • preserved moss

  • floral styrofoam

  • hot glue gun

  • taper candles (optional)

The taper candles add a little thrill to this centerpiece and are anchored to the moss bowl via a thin strip of styrofoam foundation and the magic of a hot glue gun. I liked the staggered look and three are just so appealing to the eye, but feel free to experiment with any number that tickles your fancy. The best part is that once they burn out, you can try another look.

If candles aren’t your thing, I think creating texture through different types of moss is equally appealing. If you are low on moss, the styrofoam block is excellent for adding oomph to the center of the bowl with height, feigning the abundance of moss. I love this simplistic, yet sophisticated concept and look forward to trying both ways. The best part is that nothing is permanent! If you wish to solidify your masterpiece, feel free to hot glue your moss babies down. Otherwise, I opted to allow my moss to live in the bowl glue-free.
